Someone killed Adie Wilding—and now they’re trying to kill her again!

Just a normal twenty-something girl, with a couple or four boyfriend mistakes behind her and a recent relocation to London, Adie Wilding is living an ordinary life. Then she’s shot on the street, dies, and is revived.

So far, a busier day than expected.

While in hospital, she meets to-die-for Nathan Crawford, who helps unravel the motives behind the not-as-random-as-it-seems attack, while making her fall madly in love with him. With a wicked sense of humour, a penchant for Latin idioms, and a heavy fog on her memory, Adie alternates between clever and ditzy—even as the body count rises!

Famous Penultimate Words edition by Roberta Pearce Romance eBooks

Famous Penultimate Words, Roberta Pearce’s fourth romance novel, shows again how far this author has progressed from her earlier works. While they were highly enjoyable by themselves, Pearce shows that she’s perfectly able to mix romance with suspense and mystery.
The mystery starts when protagonist Adelyn ‘Adie’ Wilding gets shot in a London street. At first she thinks she has been shot by mistake, but when other acquaintances die, fake policemen show up at the hospital, and a handsome mysterious protector called Nathan shows up, Adie starts to realise that the situation is much more precarious than she initially figured to be.
With a cast of eclectic characters, a solid plot and relentless suspense building up, Famous Penultimate Words rises above mere romance into the realms of romantic suspense.
Pearce has the ability to breathe life in characters with just a few well-chosen descriptive sentences. Punchy dialogue is interspersed with effective descriptions that make the setting an integral part of a story that manages to give new surprises at every twist.
Highly recommended for both romance as romantic suspense lovers.

Famous Penultimate Words edition by Roberta Pearce Romance eBooks Reviews

Famous Penultimate Words is my first read by Roberta Pearce, and I'm impressed by this author's intellect which shines through her words.

Beginning with Adie getting shot, followed by others she knows meeting with danger and death, our lead understands the problem is gravely serious.
Pearce brings dynamic life to a wide assortment of personalities, her stellar plot demands the highest praise as the suspense is palpable, and I learned while reading this to watch for hidden references within her lines. Brilliant!

I love the author's succinct yet vividly descriptive sentences, interesting scenarios, meaningful dialogue, and surprising twists.

There is romance in this mystery, and it is for adults over 18. Get to know this author!
The always refreshing Ms. Pearce has delivered another stunning work. I have been a huge fan since I first read the opening chapter of A Bird Without Wings (and of course I caught the reference to the Ransomme in this one! 😊) and have hung on every paragraph since.

Her first foray into romantic suspense is a huge hit! I am having a hard time gathering my thoughts to properly rave about it! I truly loved everything about this book. The suspense is quite exciting, and unraveling the mystery was quite fun (and I am happy to say that I was very wrong about who I thought was at the head of Adie's ever growing list of pursuers!) The timing is fantastic - never a dull moment. The cadence is mesmerizing - I absolutely adore her style! Her outstanding vocabulary is only matched by her wicked sense of humor. The heroine is intelligent, independent and so fun - I truly want to be BFFs with her. The hero, his Lordship, is not so shabby either. Oh and I cannot tell you how much I loved the Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden references. The entire book was an absolute joy to read and I only put it down because real life kept interrupting. Humph!

Very highly recommended - quite possibly the perfect summer read!

Now when does the preorder for the sequel start? I can’t wait!
2015 Rating System 3

Okay, so here is the deal. The first 40% or so was epic. As in laughing my head off and just really loving it. Then they go to Nathan's away home, and I guess I'm just confused as to why they go there. I mean I know there was the whole house break in, but then everyone being there was like what? IDK, I think I preferred the story with just Adie and Nathan. I loved the way they interacted in the hospital and at the first home.

I got lost in all of the extra characters who didn't seem to serve a purpose other than to be suspects. I don't feel like I got to know any of them, except that one was a drunk. I knew more about the maids.

In sort, I was disappointed with that whole section 50% to around 80%. It's not as if it were dull. There was a lot that happened. I just didn't care who did it or why since I didn't know any of them. I started to care less and less as the romance got pushed to the background.

My issues 1) I HATE more than a paragraph of narration. I think this section of the book had a lot of narration because Adie was sleuthing, so that might have been why I didn't like it. 2) It felt dragged out. Once I got to 82% some action started to happen, like the action in the beginning. I think the middle of this book was to settle us and then rile us up again, but there was too must settling, so I got bored, even when more death came, I was not amused. 3)I've been up all night, so I'm probably more apathetic. Plus, I've been listening to this rather than reading the words, and I was cooking during part of it, so it could very well be that I was missing the good parts. 4) I've never cared for books with characters over the age of 25, and only 25 if they are dating someone younger. I don't think I'm old enough to appreciate the boring lives and problems of adults. Let's be honest, I just want the romance. Screw the plot. 5)Why is the book so long? I think the section at the second house could have been balled up into two chapters (SEX & the "incident" in the maze). The pace wouldn't have felt drawn out, and the book would be getting a five star rating.

This book started of as a five for me. Like I said, I absolutely loved the beginning, but then I got bored with Adie's constant narration and contemplation. I liked it at first, when she was doped up. IDK. I guess I was just letdown after how much I absolutely loved the beginning.

Now, I'm at 82%. I think I'm too apathetic to read the rest right now, so I'm going to put it down for the time being and come back when I'm not in a grumpy mood.

Just to clarify things, the book is beautifully written and there is an ever-moving plot with a bit of romance that is definitely of 5 star quality. I only gave it a lower rating because I'm going strictly by how much I like it. Overall, I do like it, because of the beginning, but I can't do a four star because there was too great a section that I just got bored in. If the next 20% turns out to be as crazy awesome as the beginning, then I'll up in to a four.

Now I think I'm going to sleep off my droopy sour puss self, and y'all better ignore my star rating and go read it for yourself because I know it's just me and my mood.

Okay, I finished. My feelings didn't change. I think I would have enjoyed it more in 3rd person with more romance. The MC started to annoy me with her internal dialogue, and there was such a great buildup in the beginning that I just wanted it to keep escalating, and it didn't for me. I will be on the look out for more Pearce books since I liked the beginning of this book so much. I really think my dislike was because I don't care for adult books period, so reading something I don't normally like is at fault here.
